Population Definition

The target population is estimated by applying gender- and age-specific payment amounts of credit cards, debit cards, based on studies conducted by the Bank of Korea and financial institutions on payment behavior.

Retail Brand Exposure Criteria

A retail brand is created if the number of monthly payment transactions exceeds a certain threshold (approximately 50,000). Classification is based on whether the payment unit qualifies as a distinct retail brand. Data for retail brands is generated daily and monthly, and stable data output requires a minimum number of monthly payers (generally between 20,000 and 40,000). Retail brands that do not meet these criteria may be flagged as having potential statistical inaccuracies, and some data may not be disclosed.

Data Privacy

All data is processed in an anonymized form. No personally identifiable information is collected or utilized.

Recognition of Payment Amount

Payment amounts are recognized based on the information provided in the consumer's payment records or statements and are classified according to the brand indicated in the payment details.

Unrecognized Payment Amount

Payment amounts will not be classified if the payment details are ambiguous, the retail brand classification is unclear, or only the payment agency is listed in the payment records.

Allocation of Payment Amount

The payment amount is assigned to only one retail brand. For franchises, no distinction is made between directly managed stores and franchise stores.

Revenue and Payments

The revenue of individual retail brand differs from the payment amounts recorded in this service, as it varies based on the payment method, sales method, revenue recognition approach, and accounting treatment method.

Installment Payments

For payments made in installments, the total amount is recognized as the payment amount in the first month only and is classified as an installment payment.

Overseas Payments

Transactions made in foreign currencies (non-KRW) are classified as overseas payments. These amounts are converted into KRW based on the exchange rate on the date of the transaction.

Simple Payments (Digital Wallets)

  • The classifiable simple payment methods include Naver Pay, Samsung Pay, Kakao Pay, PAYCO, SSGPAY, Coupang Pay, Toss Pay, and L.Pay.

  • For credit/debit cards–linked simple payments, if the retail brand is identifiable in the payer’s transaction history, the payment amount is attributed to the corresponding retail brand.

  • For prepaid (top-up–based) simple payments, the payment amount is attributed to the retail brand where the balance was topped up, at the time of the top-up.
